Ihtamol ointment, with carefully selected ingredients, has many positive effects on the skin.
Petroleum jelly – used as an occlusive agent in cosmetics. Applied to the skin, it forms a semi-permeable film that prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and increases skin hydration.
Lanolin – a source of the skin’s own lipids (cholesterol), it has an emollient action. It also has an occlusive action, forming a semi-permeable film on the skin that reduces water evaporation and increases skin hydration.
Ichthyol – extracted from oil shale, rich in sulphur. If you have a problem with manure, ihtamol breaks down the manure from the slurry and, if the slurry is closed, opens it up.
Acne is caused by a combination of factors
- hormonal changes, such as those during puberty, pregnancy or menopause, can cause increased secretion of sebum, leading to clogged pores.
- bacteria, especially Propionibacterium acnes, can break down dead skin cells and cause acne. A tendency to acne can be inherited, so people with family histories of acne are associated with acne problems
- certain foods, such as dairy products and high-glycaemic foods, can contribute to acne
- stress can increase the production of cortisol, a hormone that can stimulate oil production and cause acne
- Over-washing, using harsh cleansers or inadequate skin care can irritate the skin and cause acne.
