The cooling ointment is an emulsion with carefully selected ingredients and has many positive effects.
Petroleum jelly – used as an occlusive agent in cosmetics. Applied to the skin, it forms a semi-permeable film that prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and increases skin hydration.
Lanolin – a source of the skin’s own lipids (cholesterol), it has an emollient action. It also has an occlusive action, forming a semi-permeable film on the skin that reduces water evaporation and increases skin hydration.
Olive oil – is the most typical of the vegetable oils with a high oleic acid content. Although the proportion of saturated palmitic and stearic acid is low, olive oil is nevertheless considered one of the more stable vegetable oils. Its special feature is its unique composition of non-nutritive compounds, in particular its high squalene content. Olive oil is very beneficial for dry skin as it is easily absorbed.
Why does nappy rash occur?
Diaper rash, also known as inflammation of the skin under the nappy, is often caused by prolonged skin contact with urine or faeces, which can cause irritation and inflammation.
Here are some of the more common causes:
- the skin is sensitive and prolonged contact with urine or faeces can cause inflammation,
- detergents, laundry detergents and soaps containing chemical substances can irritate the skin,
- allergies to lotions or other materials that come into contact with the skin can cause inflammation.
To prevent nappy rash, it is important to wash and dry regularly, use good-quality nappies, and remove urine and faeces as soon as possible.
